Outrageous! Newborn Found in Trash After Birth—Why Aren’t All Participants Facing Harsher Charges?

A shocking case has left many questioning the justice system. On September 16, an 18-year-old Ukrainian woman gave birth in an employee hostel and left her newborn to die in a trash can at a nearby bus stop. While the mother claims the child was stillborn, autopsy results suggest otherwise—the baby was born alive at 37 weeks, healthy, and capable of surviving. How is it possible that those responsible for this horrific act aren’t facing more severe consequences?

According to investigators, the mother wrapped the newborn in a commercial bag and dumped the baby like garbage. Her story? She didn’t know she was pregnant and insists the baby was born dead. But experts paint a different picture: the newborn likely bled out due to an uncut umbilical cord, suffocated in the bag, or froze to death.

Equally disturbing is the involvement of three other individuals—her 18-year-old sister, the sister’s boyfriend, and her cousin—all under 20 years old. These individuals, instead of seeking help, helped cover up the crime by cleaning the blood, scrubbing the mattress, and pretending they knew nothing about the birth. Their punishment? A slap on the wrist—prohibited from leaving the country and placed under police supervision.

How is this even acceptable? These people helped obstruct an investigation into the death of a newborn, and all they get is a travel ban? How can they be let off so lightly when their actions directly contributed to the destruction of evidence?

The mother herself has been charged with infanticide, a crime that comes with a shockingly lenient sentence of just 3 months to 5 years in prison. How can we be okay with this? This was not a miscarriage of justice—it was a miscarriage of basic human responsibility! And yet, there’s a chance her charges may change to murder depending on psychiatric evaluation results. How about the people who helped her cover it up? It is not OK to dump a live child like a piece of rubbish!

This case is a tragic reminder of how flawed the system can be when it comes to crimes involving children. Let’s not let these young lives be disregarded by inadequate legal responses. This isn’t just about the mother; it’s about everyone involved in allowing this crime to go unnoticed.
