Another Missing Teenage Girl in Warsaw—What’s going on?

Warsaw is grappling with a disturbing pattern that seems to be unfolding before our eyes—another teenage girl has gone missing. This time, it’s 17-year-old Maria Korczak, who vanished on September 13, 2024, after leaving her home. Alarming as it is, her disappearance barely raised eyebrows anymore. Why? Because it’s the latest in a series of teenage girls going missing in Warsaw, and the shocking truth is, it’s becoming so common that people are starting to grow numb.

Where is Maria?

Maria Korczak was last reportedly seen in Siedlce, possibly with her boyfriend, but her phone’s gone dark. Police and the Itaka Foundation are pleading with the public for help. Maria is just 17, standing at 160 cm tall, with blue eyes, and she was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and yellow-white sneakers. A normal girl, with her whole life ahead of her—just gone.

This marks yet another teenage girl disappearing in the city in recent months, and it’s becoming a disturbing trend. Maria’s family, alongside Itaka and the police, are urging anyone with information to come forward. It’s crucial. But what is happening in Warsaw? Why are so many young girls going missing, and why does it seem like people are no longer shocked?

A Worrying Trend

It’s not just Maria. There have been at least four or five similar cases this month alone. Teenagers vanishing without a trace, often after leaving home or meeting someone, never to return. Families devastated, left in agonizing uncertainty, while Warsaw residents go about their lives, the news barely causing a ripple. The once-unthinkable is now eerily familiar, as if disappearances have become a part of the city’s fabric.

But we have to ask ourselves—what’s going on? Why have these disappearances become so routine? Is there something more sinister at play in Warsaw? A trafficking ring? Targeted abductions? No one knows for sure, but the frequency and ease with which these girls seem to disappear is deeply unsettling. And the lack of public outcry is equally concerning.

So, if you’ve seen Maria Korczak or have any information about her whereabouts, contact the Itaka Foundation’s Missing People Search Center at 116 000, or write to them at itaka@zaginieni.pl. You can also reach out to the nearest police station or call 112.
